East Ireland | County Dublin

Ballyedmonduff Wedge Tomb is located on the south eastern slope of Two Rock Mountain in County Dublin, just 18 km from Dublin City Center (beside Glencullen Golf Club). This early Bronze Age wedge tomb is also known as "Giants Grave" and was discovered by Alderman Blacker around 1830. Tomb was excavated in 1945, but unfortunately, by this time, the main chamber was completely destroyed and many of the stones were removed and used by local stonecutters. The excavations revealed that the the tomb was oriented east-west and comprised of three chambers surrounded by a horseshoe-shaped arrangement of stones with entrance at the western end. Findings included pieces of pottery, number of flints, polished stone hammer and fragments of cremated bone. One of the stones is decorated with seven cup marks.

You can go there by bus No. 44B from Dundrum (get off at stop No. 3506). Unfortunately there is no signpost and you have to find path to the forest and follow it along the fence of golf club, which is on your left hand side. After around 300 m you will find the tomb on your right side on the edge of the forest. If you are traveling by car, you get there by road No. 116 . In village of Glencullen turn right (south direction, signposted to Stepaside) immediately after famous Johnny Fox's Pub. Proceed for approx 1 km until you see gravel road leading to the forest (on your left hand side).
