The Celtic and Prehistoric Museum is located beside the road R559, in Klvicadowing near Ventry (west of Dingle Town) on the Dingle Peninsula. This small, well furnished museum offers a large collection of artefacts from all over Europe, dating from 500 million years ago until the middle ages. The biggest attraction is undoubtedly the large complete Wooly Mammoth skull with the 3m long tusks (discovered by fishermen in the North Sea). There is interesting collection of fossils including the nest of dinosaur eggs (70-80 million years old) and many authentic tools used by Homo Erectus and Neanderthal. The exhibitions show development of the tools, jewelery, art and weaponry starting from Stone Age, through Bronze Age, Iron Age, up to the Middle Ages. You will find there many interesting early forms of art, decorations as stone and bronze figurines and fine examples of Celtic jewelery. The museum's shop offers plenty of unique, handmade souvenirs and gadgets.
