Cleggan Court Tomb is situated on the northern shore of Cleggan Bay (County Galway) within a few meters of a low cliff which rises about 9m above the sea level. The monument is aligned ESE-WNW, with the entrance towards east. The gallery contains three separated chambers, of which only the middle one retains a large roofstone (3m long, 1.7m wide and up to 0.9 m thick). The court of the tomb is no longer visible. The exact date of construction is unknown, but generally court tombs are amongst the oldest megalithic monuments in Ireland and began to appear around 4000 BC and remained in use until as late as the Bronze Age transition, c. 2200 BC. Cleggan Court Tomb is not signposted. To find it you need to follow the northern shore of Cleggan Bay until you see it. It’s not easy way, so you need to have a proper shoes and be realy carreful. You could also ask for permission and use the dirt road leading through the farmland.
