Darby's Bed, also known as Duntryleague Passage Tomb is located near the village of Galbally in southeast County Limerick. The remains of this megalithic monument probably date to around 3000 BC. It's a rare example of passage tomb in this part of Ireland. Its roofstones rise like steps to the top of the chamber, what suggesting influences from Brittany. It was probably surrounded by earthen mound or stone cairn and few kerbstones are still visible. The legend says to be the grave of Ailill Ollamh (or Oilill Olum), one of the early Kings of Munster who lived around 2nd century AD. The monument is also associated with mythical lovers Diarmuid & Gráinne who spent the night here in their run from the 'Fionn Mac Cumhaill'. The monument's name is probably related to this story as Darby is a derivative of the name Diarmuid.
