The Hunt Museum has one of Ireland's greatest private collections of Art and Antiquities, dating from the Neolithic to the 20th century. It's housed in 18th century, the Palladian style Custom House situated in Limerick's city center. The collection was gathered by John Hunt (a historian, antiquarian, and collector) and his wife Gertrude. Each piece of the collection is selected according to the quality of its design, craftmanship and artistic value. You will find there artworks of Picasso, Renoir, Gauguin and da Vinci but also superb quality works made by anonymous craftsmen. The Hunt Museum's exhibitions are very diverse. Antiquities and fine and decorative art come from very different places and periods of time. There are artefacts from Greeece, Rome, Egypt and the Olmec civilisation as well as an important Irish archaeological findings ranging from Neolithic flints and Bronze Age objects, to later Christian props such as the unique 9th century Antrim Cross. There are also vast amount of medieval requisites such as wood and stone statues, painted panels, jewellery, enamels, ivories, ceramics, crystals and crucifixes. The list of interesting exhibits of Hunt Museum is just endless.
