Northwest Ireland | County Sligo

The Caves of Keash are situated on the slope of a limestone hill of Keashcorran on the western end of the Bricklieve Mountains in County Sligo, about 6.5 km southeast from the town of Ballymote. This complex of thirteen caves was used as habitation since prehistoric times. Remains of human and animal bones were discovered during excavations, including reindeer, Arctic lemming, bears and wolves, which are now extinct in Ireland. The stone age axe was also found there. Caves are associated with many Irish legends and myths. Just 4 km to the east there is another worth seeing attraction, Carrowkeel Passage Tomb Cemetery, the complex of 14 cairns dating back to the Neolithic times.
