Mount Usher Gardens
East Ireland | County Wicklow
Mount Usher Gardens are located near the village of Ashford in County Wicklow. On the area of 22 acres divided by River Vartry there are over 5000 species of plants and shrubs from around the world. Founded in 1868 and developed over the next 112 years by the Walpole family, inspired by the William Robinson (famous Irish gardener, designer and journalist who promoted less formal, but more wild and natural-looking way of garden design). Visitors can follow the marked Tree Trail to explore the interesting, exotic and rare species of trees, plants and shrubs, or just simply enjoy the charm, harmony and variety of color strolling around the garden avenues, woodland paths and bridges. Garden preserves the charm and beauty all year round, clearly stressing seasons. The BBC Gardener’s World Magazine voted Mount Usher Gardens as the Most Romantic Garden and the Best Garden to visit in the Republic of Ireland in both 2009 & 2010.
