Muckross Traditional Farms
Southwest Ireland | County Kerry
Muckross Traditional Farms are open air museum situated in the heart of Killarney National Park on the grounds of famous Muckross House and Gardens. There are examples of three working farms of different sizes: Kissane's small farm, Foley's midium size farm and Quille's large farm. In addition to the farms, you will also find there O'Connors labourer's cottage, the Blacksmith's forge, the harness - maker (saddler) workshop and the carpenter's workshop. All represent the rural Ireland of the 1930s and 1940s before the intoduction of electricity and provide a real-life glimpse at what life in Ireland was like in the early 20th century. Each household includes furniture, everyday life items and farm machinery which reflects living conditions from that period. You can meet farmers doing their everyday work and whole range of farm animals, what is a great fun especially for children.
