Allihies Copper Mine Museum is situated in the last village, at the end of Beara Peninsula, in west County Cork. The beautiful scenery surrounding the village of Allihies is dominated by the Mountain Mine and the Man Engine House reminding the mining past of this place. The museum is housed in former Methodist church built in 1845 for the Cornish miners, working here. Allihies Copper Mine Museum tells the story of mining tradition in this area, starting in the Bronze Age, though its heydays in 19th century, to the short come back to operation in 1950s and 1960s. The exhibitions, multimedia and artefacts visualize the technical basis of the machinery used as well as harsh living and working conditions of the miners and their families. There is also model of the Man Engine reconstructing the journey down to the copper veins. The way-marked Allihies Copper Mine Trail is great addition to museum. It takes you to the six of seven mine sites around the village and offers stunning views of rugged coast of Beara Peninsula and Atlantic Ocean.
